Blocked Trade Waste Lines

Before water flows directly to the sewer drain, water is sent to the grease trap and the trip happens in trade waste lines. The lines consisted of pipes where the water flows. Sometimes pipes get partially clogged or blocked on the inside. In more serious circumstances, the blockage can interfere and clog the inside of the pipes completely and block up the drain opening. In result of that, the water flow becomes slow moving or fully back up of waste water.

Why is my trade waste lines blocked?

When something partially or even completely clog the inside of a pipe, blocked pipes or drains can happen. But why does that happen in the first place? Here are several of what could possibly be the reason for your trade waste lines blockage:

  • The drain was installed poorly and incorrectly causing it to work improperly.
  • There’s a breakdown of the pipelines because of the pressure or weight an unsupported pipe is too much.
  • Tree roots, plants, and dirt that have found a way in to the trade water line.
  • Sometimes a movement from a restoration, excavation, or construction can damage the pipes.
  • Strange objects reside in the pipes, where they’re supposed not to be in. Sometimes it is because of flushing different objects down your toilet bowl, that it is not designed for.
  • The blockage starts from your main sewer.

Who is responsible for the blockage?

If the blockage causes an overflow that is apparent beyond your property or household, in your neighbourhood but not only your house, or there’s a widespread flooding in your local area, it’s probably your local area water company that is responsible. On the other hand, if it only happens on your property, it is absolutely your responsibility. Especially when:

  • your neighbours are not facing the same blockage problems,
  • your drainage is private and not shared with other properties, or
  • there’s no widespread flooding in your local area.

If that’s the situation, no need to worry. You can try these things to remove the blockage:

  • Use a drain snake to push down, remove, and break up the blockage so it clears up the lines and water can flow
  • Use drain rods which can be bought or rented as a service by drain plumbing company.
  • Lift any access to chambers or manholes on the drain and clear up the things that block the lines.
